Anh Minh., étudiante de l'université Hanoi University of Science and Technology en mobilité à l'UPVD

As a 4th year Bachelor student in the program of English Interantional Professsional at Hanoi Unviersity of Science and Technology in Vietnam, I have embarked on a semester abroad adventure through the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program. The allure of Perpignan, France, wasn't just its idyllic location nestled against the Pyrenees; it was the prestigious University of Perpignan and its esteemed Anglais Etudes Transmédiales program that truly drew me in. The academic program storytelling, the art of weaving narratives across various platforms, perfectly aligned with my academic interests, and Perpignan promised not only intellectual growth but also an immersion into vibrant French culture.

The warmth of the university's welcome committee immediately eased any anxieties I had about arriving in a new country. Finding accommodation was a breeze thanks to the online listings provided, and integrating into the student community surprised me with its ease. Joining the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Perpignan proved invaluable.  This vibrant group of international students became my springboard into the local culture, fostering friendships through language exchange nights, cultural excursions, and weekend getaways that showcased the vast beauty of France.

Beyond the university walls, Perpignan blossomed into a tapestry of experiences. The bustling city markets became my go-to for fresh produce, the aroma of freshly baked pastries a constant invitation.  Every corner revealed a piece of history, from the awe-inspiring medieval architecture to the charming cobblestone streets.  The city's proximity to the Mediterranean was an unexpected bonus, offering stunning beaches and escapes to quaint seaside towns.

While the initial language barrier presented a challenge, the academic environment at the University of Perpignan proved enriching. The teaching methods, though similar to my home university, focused heavily on class discussions and independent research, pushing me to become a more proactive learner.  The Anglais Etudes Transmédiales program itself lived up to its reputation, offering a fascinating exploration of storytelling across various media platforms.  The professors, although using French as the primary language, were incredibly supportive, offering extra help whenever needed. The workload struck a happy balance between classroom sessions and personal research, allowing me to engage fully with the material and hone my time management skills.

This mobility experience went beyond academics.  My fluency in French improved significantly through daily interactions and exposure to the local dialect.  Adapting to a different educational environment made me a more resourceful and independent student.  Stepping outside my comfort zone fostered a sense of self-reliance and resilience.  Most importantly, the cultural immersion broadened my perspective and sparked a deep appreciation for the richness and diversity of human experiences.

For future exchange students considering Perpignan, I have a few words of advice.  Immerse yourselves in everything the city has to offer – savor the local cuisine, explore the historical sites, and don't be afraid to practice your French, even if it's littered with mistakes.  Embrace the camaraderie offered by the ESN events, connect with other international students, and venture beyond the city limits to explore the breathtaking French countryside.  Most importantly, approach the experience with an open mind and a willingness to learn.  It may feel daunting at first, but stepping outside your comfort zone can be incredibly rewarding.

Perpignan wasn't just a semester abroad; it was a transformative journey.  I returned home with a newfound confidence, a deeper understanding of transmedia storytelling, and a wealth of memories that will forever be etched in my heart.
