 Since 1989 the University of Perpignan provides a course of FRENCH AS A LANGUAGE OF DIPLOMACY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS.
This special program is part of the educational and research activities designed for the foreign partners of France like other countries of the European Union, candidates for EU –membership, Mediterranean countries related to the Union or others.

 Aims

Enable the student to develop special political and diplomatic skills through interdisciplinary and active learning approaches, understanding of the interconnection between theory and practice, master a foreign language and acquire leadership qualities and other essential skills of diplomacy.

Each session includes a series of conferences hold by university professors and outstanding scholars with professional experiences, specialists of international law, economy, global issues, history of French and European institutions, social and political sciences : enhancing language for skills  necessary in understanding of global issues and international policies.  

 Admission requirements

The course is designed for foreign students and professionals who are interested in  developing professional skills in diplomacy and international relations in French language : students in law and economics, students seeking careers in the diplomatic service, government employees and actors in international relations, translators, specialized teachers…

 

University Diploma « French , language of diplomacy Students can sit for the official exam at the end of the course. The University Diploma of French as a language of diplomacy and international relations (DU Université de Perpignan Français langue diplomatique) requires a final written examination. 

Course description

 

Each course offers 60 hours of intensive teaching.
The courses will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. except on Saturday, Sunday and national holiday.
Each session is made of several conferences exploring special subjects prepared in cooperation with members of the university and professionals. The French courses control the linguistic performances. The reading room provides general information, reference material, dictionaries, training manuals, specialized newspapers and magazines to the students as well as internet access. 

 Program and methods 

Part A 

Structured around a series of lectures offered by university members and representatives of the public sector (ministry of foreign affairs, ENA), specialists in international law, economics, global issues, history of French and European institutions, social and political sciences.

Elucidates the linkages between language and the skills needed in the different international actions.

Each lecture is followed by a discussion with a deeper understanding of the treated topics and en exchange of opinion of the lecturer and his auditors.

Part B

The program immerses students in analyse and interactive exercise of oral communication through the study of authentic documents with phases of understanding and own production.
The sessions of oral communication focuses on linguistic issues and give students the edge in enhancing language skills.

 Related programs/ outside seminars

Thanks to our international university cooperation policy we can also provide special “outside seminars” to our foreign partners. Intensive seminars containing all or only a part of the topics of the “French as a language of diplomacy”  course can be planned and organized in partnership with the cultural and linguistic department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Located in the centre of Perpignan the university gives students the ability to partake in the leisure program of our Mediterranean region : concerts, festivals, local events, beach …
An optional program with cultural activities is offered to the participants.
Possibility to organize sightseeing around the Mediterranee, the Pyrénées, Spain etc. on Sundays. 

Accomodation

Standard single rooms at the students hall. Showers and toilets on each floor. Only studios are equipped with own bathroom. Reservation of rooms in local hotels on demand.

Meals

Cafeteria on the campus.

2 weeks (60 hours) : 870 euros

Minimum age of 18, see application form.
No grade.

The full payment is due at least 15 days prior to the starting  date of the course.
The booking is valid and binding only if the full payment has been done before the beginning of the course.
No refund in case of late arrival, early departure , changes of your booking.
